James M. Yates

U.S. Veteran Mr. James M. Yates, age 85, of Fulton, KY died February 16,2010 at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL.
He was of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith and was a retired farmer. He had also been a district representative for the former Arvin Electronics and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. While serving his country he received the EAME Theater Ribbon w/ 2 Bronze Stars, good conduct medal and victory medal World War II. He also served with the 26th Field Hospital in Rhineland Central Europe. He was also a member of the VFW post in Union City, TN and was a graduate of U of L with an electronic engineering degree. He had lived in this area most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Reh) Yates of Fulton, KY, whom he married February 28, 1953; a son Martin Yates of South Fulton, TN and a daughter Gail Ruth Yates of Cadiz, KY; 2 grandchildren Houston Morse of Colorado Springs, CO and Drew Yates of South Fulton, TN and a sister Pauline Yates Gunter of Fulton,KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents Inez (Tyler) and Nathan Tubb Yates, a grandchild Geier Deatherage, 2 brothers Melvin Yates & Nathan Yates and a sister Marion Clark.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at the Obion Co. Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for services. | James M Yates

Mrs. Judith Ann Matheny Allen, age 63, of the Pilot Oak community near Wingo,KY, died October 5, 2009 at her home.
She was a member of the Pryorsburg Community Fellowship Church and had been a machine operator for the former Henry I. Siegel Clothing Company. She had lived in this area all of her life.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Allen of Wingo, KY (Pilot Oak Community), her mother Mary Loreen (Jackson) Matheny of Wingo, KY, a son David Allen of Wingo, KY, 2 daughters and a son in law, Bonnie Allen, Melissa & Kirk Willie, all of Wingo, KY. 4 grandchildren: William Allen, James Allen, Morgan Willie & Alex Willie, all of Wingo, KY; 2 brothers Tony Matheny and Johnny Mac Matheny both of Wingo, KY and 2 sisters Wanda Baker Holt of South Fulton, TN and Patsy Mae Matheny of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father Johnny Matheny.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Pryorsburg Community Fellowship Church and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Jones was a founding member of the Smith Street Church of Christ in So. Fulton,Tn. and taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She worked at the former Dime Store, Hobby Lobby, AC Butts Grocery and also worked as the sample lady for E.W. James and Son Supermarket located in Fulton, Ky.
She is survived by her son, John O'Neal Jones and his wife, Karen from South Fulton,Tn., two grandaughters, Melissa Neal Jones from Boston, MA and Allison Taylor Jones from Martin,TN. and one sister, Peggy Marler of Abiliene, Texas (She was preceded in death by her husband, O'Neal Jones and 5 siblings, Molton Gambill, Raymond Gambill, Joseph Gambill, Juanita Gambill and Edith Moore as well as her parents, John and Viola Williams Gambill.)

Travene Clark, 83, of South Fulton died Monday morning at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
A native of Obion County, Mrs. Clark was a former florist at Cotham's Florist in Union City and Four Seasons Florist in Martin. She was a member of South Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Gideons Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Billy Clark; a daughter, Patricia Caudle Cooper of Florence, Ala.; a son, Terry Caudle of Union City; two stepsons, Gary Clark of Dover and David Clark of South Fulton; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, A.B. Caudle, and a brother. Her parents were Alton Neely and Dessie Primrose Neely.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton with the Revs. David Bayer and James Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City.

FULTON, Ky. — A memorial service for Carolyn Work Ross, 72, of South Fulton, Tenn., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Good Springs Cemetery in Dukedom, Tenn.
She died at 5:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Hospice in Knoxville, Tenn.
Mrs. Ross was a native of Graves County. She was a former clerk at the Southside Drug Store in South Fulton.
Surviving are one son, Steve Ross of South Fulton; one daughter, Nancy Manley of Jefferson City, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Rebecca Manley and Emily Manley, both of Jefferson City; and several aunts, uncles and cousin
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Drennon Bagwell, and her second husband, Harold Lee Ross. Her parents were Arnold and Elmar Dickerson Work.

John Ray Cunningham, 69, of Obion, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 at his residence.
He was an employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber for 28 years.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Obion Church of Christ with Harrell Davidson officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Obion. Cryer Funeral Home in Obion was in charge of arrangements.

Jane Pirtle

She was born in Water Valley, KY. on December 15, 1935, the daughter of the late Harry Eugene Tibbs and Mabel Laird Tibbs Hopkins.
She was a bookkeeper for Pirtle Farms in Water Valley, KY., was a member of the Water Valley United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Tri County Homemakers. She was honored as the Kentucky Homemaker of the Year in 2004. Jane was a lifelong resident of this area and married her husband, Billy R. Pirtle on 4-10-55 at the Water Valley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Billy R. Pirtle of Water Valley, KY., 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Ann and Gary Harper of Benton, KY., Betty Nan and Mike Frizzell of Huntsville, AL and 2 sons and daughters-in-law, John Craig and Stephanie Pirtle and Harry Dan and Rita Pirtle all of Water Valley, KY., 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

U.S. Veteran Eldon Gerald "Jerry" Elliott, age 77, of South Fulton,TN died July 6, 2009 at 1:36 p.m. at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY.
He was the administrator for the former Hillview Hospital in Fulton, KY for 20 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War. He served for 20 years and was a Master Sergeant. He was also a member of the V.F.W. He had lived most of his life in Obion Co., TN and in Texas.
He is survived by his wife Shirley A. Stewart Elliott of South Fulton, TN, a daughter & son in law, Loyce and Bruce Barker of South Fulton,TN, 3 grandchildren Adam Barker, Lauren Wade and Reid Barker, all of South Fulton,TN. Also 2 sisters Betty Cory of Boone, Iowa and Rita Clark of Des Moines, Iowa, and 2 brothers Harold Elliott of Jefferson,Iowa and Richard Elliott of Texas.

U.S. Veteran Mr. Travice Wallace Grissom died Sunday morning at the Parkway Regional Hospital.
He was a member of the South Fulton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He had served in the Tennessee Army National Guard and had retired from the former General Tire Company in Mayfield,KY in 1994 where he had worked for 29 years. He had lived in this area all of his life.
He is survived by his wife Marolyn (Williamson) Grissom of South Fulton, whom he married December 19, 1964. 3 daughters: Melissa Brooks of South Fulton,TN, Pamela Edwards of Allen, TX and Beth Grissom of Brentwood, TN; 5 grandchildren, 2 brothers Samuel Grissom of Lake Placid,FL and Dwight Grissom of Smyrna, TN; and 2 sisters Wanda Jackson of Palmersville, TN and Dorothy Engstrom of Pulaski, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Corene (Jones) Grissom.

MAYFIELD, Ky.--Billy Gene Lamb, 73, of Mayfield died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
Mr. Lamb owned and operated Bill's Truck Parts for 21 years and Mayfield Motor Inn for 18 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lamb; one son, Michael Lamb of Melber; one stepson, Robert Heath of Mayfield; two stepdaughters, Sarah Genanatti and Kathy Feagan, both of Mayfield; one sister, Sue Miller of Mayfield; three brothers, J.D. Chester G. Gargus, 78, of Ful-ton died 9:53 a.m. July 20, 2005, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Obion County Memorial Gardens, with Miles Mayo officiating.
Friends may call at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton from 9 a.m. until time to go to the cemetery Monday.
He was born May 5, 1927, in Weakley County, son of the late Thomas Shucks and Lottie (Parham) Gargus. He was married to the former Elizabeth Hall, who survives, and was a retired farmer and an avid gardener. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had lived in this area all his life.
Survivors also include his stepdaughter, Rose Pitcher of Michigan; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack Graham
Completed arrangements are being announced for Jack C. Graham, 90, a former resident of Harmony Church (Ky.) community, who died at Arbor Place of Clinton, Ky., 2:55 a.m. Aug. 31, 2005.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with the Revs. Calvin Clark and Ann Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton's Liberty Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 28, 1914, in Cayce, Ky., son of the late Lewis Booker and Melva (Burns) Graham. He married the former Mary Evelyn Goodwin March 23, 1940. She survives. He was a retired farmer and member of Harmony United Methodist Church and was a member of Hickman Masonic Lodge 131 in Clinton for more than 50 years. He had lived in the Harmony Church community in Hickman County, Ky., all his life.
Survivors also include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Ruth Ann Graham of Fulton and Jacky L. and Julie Graham of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Carey Carroll of Fulton and Jay Graham of Nashville; two step-grandchildren, Kimberly Mobley and Eric Davis, both of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Carroll and Graham Carroll, both of Fulton; three step-great-grandchildren, Colin Davis and Nathan Davis, both of Clarksville, and Alexander Mobley of Hopkinsville; and his twin brother, Wes C. Mrs. Lizzie Roberts, 83, died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Bonnie House in Detroit early Friday afternoon, after a
long illness. She was one of the oldest members of the Dukedom
Methodist Church.
She is survived by five sons; William and Gilbert of Dukedom,
Arvel and Noble of Detroit and Francis of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Three daughters, Mrs. Bonnie House of Detroit, Mrs. Kenneth
Speakman of Sturgis, S. D. and Mrs. J. T. Jackson of Mayfield.
Several grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Captie Momany of
Jonesboro, Ark.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Dukedom
Methodist Church with the Rev. Norman Crittendon officiating.
Burial was in Pinegar cemetery, with Jackson Bros. Funeral Home

MAYFIELD, Ky. — Services for Robert Warren “Sug” Holmes, 88, of Dearborn, Mich., formerly of Sedalia, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Byrn Funeral Home with Larry Harris officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery.
Mr. Holmes died Wednesday at his home.
He served as one of the first elders of Garden City Church of Christ in Michigan.
Surviving are his wife of more than 66 years, RueDeane M. Cochrum Holmes; two sons, Michael Holmes of Londonderry, N.H., and Robert P. Holmes of Canton, Mich.; two daughters, Sherry Hall of Jackson, Tenn., and Karol Doody of Livonia, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Completed arrangements are being announced for Roy Vernon Bowden, 86, of Kingston, Wash., formerly of this area, who died 8:50 p.m. (PST) Oct. 30, 2004, at Washington Veterans Home in Retsil, Wash.
Services were 1 p.m. Saturday at Sandy Branch Primitive Baptist Church in Weakley County, with Elder Maley Davidson officiating. Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to Sandy Branch Church, in care of Larry Kimbel, 9211 Garrett Kimbel Road, South Fulton, TN 38257.
He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Obion County, son of the late Roy V. and Nell (Collins) Bowden. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served with the Military Police in Africa and Italy.
An automobile salesman, he had worked for several dealerships across the country. He had also owned and operated Bowden Dodge in Dexter, Mo., retiring in 1991 in Detroit, where he had lived most of his life.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Bowden of Duluth, Ga., and Jim Bowden of Kingston; two stepchildren, Tom Kaucic of Canton, Mich., and Diane Farkas of Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, Katie Bowden, Dan Bowden and Meghan Bowden, all of Duluth, and Brandon Bowden and Taylor Bowden, both of Kingston; and his brother, Clarence Bowden of Madisonville, Ky.

Mrs. Holland, a native of Hickman County, died at 2:03 p.m. Sunday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fulton and was serving as Ambassador of Goodwill for the OES Home in Louisville. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Fulton County Homemakers.
She is survived by three sons, Joe Holland of Sterling Heights, Mich., Bill Holland of Clinton and David Holland of Hickman; four daughters, Jean Fenwick of Fulton, Martha Cash of Louisville, and Wanda House and Nancy Pruitt, both of Clinton; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

A member of South Fulton Baptist Church, she was a self-employed beautician. She had lived in this area all her life and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Clovis (Hainline) Latham, 89, of Fulton, KY died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Obion County Nursing Home in Union City, TN.
She was a member of the Water Valley Baptist Church. She worked as an Oiler for the IC Railroader in East St. Louis, MO during WW II. She was also one of the first seamstresses hired at the former H.I.S. Clothing Plant in South Fulton, TN. She lived most of her life in this community.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Kenneth) Edmaiston of Fulton, KY, June Dean also of Fulton, KY, and Janice Hill of Dresden, TN; 14 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie B. “Billy” Latham, September 21, 1993; her parents, Dave and Hester Nola (Yates) Hainline; 2 sons, Gary Latham and Tony Latham, two brothers, one sister and a granddaughter.

Raymond Thomas Simon
(May 21, 1921 - August 13, 2009)
U.S. Veteran Mr. Simon died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Union City Manor Nursing Home.
He was of the Methodist faith and was a U. S. Marine veteran having served in World War II. He had retired as the Captain of Security for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Union City, TN. He had lived in this area all of his life.
He is survived by several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille (Hutchens) Simon, his parents Ethel (Berry) and Anderson Green (A.G. "Bud" ) Simon and a sister Elanor Melvin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Mathany Grove Cemetery in Weakley Co., TN. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Friday,8-14-09 and after 8 am on Saturday until the funeral hour. | Raymond Thomas Simon

Pauline Harper, 94 CUBA, Ky.
Graveside services for Pauline "Mompine" Harper, 94, of Cuba will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cuba Cemetery with Will McSweeney officiating.
Mrs. Harper died at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
She owned and operated Harper's Store in Cuba and was a member of the Cuba Church of Christ.
Surviving are one brother, John Hays of Cuba; two sisters, Margaret Johnson of Cuba and Robbie Sue Padula of Westport, Conn.; one grandson, Jeff Baker of Cuba; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pearl Johnson
DUKEDOM, Tenn.--Services for Willie Pearl Johnson, 92, of Dukedom will be at 1 p.m. today at Jackson Funeral Home in Dukedom. The Rev. Donald Doster will officiate. Burial will be in Good Springs Cemetery in Dukedom.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Weakley County, died Tuesday at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton.
She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Dukedom.
Surviving are several nieces including Glenda Ford and Geneva Bennett, both of Dukedom, Barbara Taylor and Hilda Haley, both of Fulton, Ky., and Linda Sue Edwards of Nevada; and one nephew, Jimmy Work of Dukedom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Johnson; six brothers; and one niece. Her parents were Lon and Azlee Armstrong Carr. | Willie Pearl Carr
