Rebecca Morris
Mary "Rebecca" Morris, 88, of Grand Haven, Mich., a former resident of Fulton, died Aug. 1, 2004, in Michigan.
Services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Michigan, with the Rev. Wayne Muri officiating. Interment will be 1 p.m. Monday at Water Valley Cemetery in Kentucky.
Clock Funeral Home in Michigan is in charge of arrangements there. Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton is in charge of local arrangements.
There will be no visitation. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery Monday.

The family requests that memorials be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church or Hospice of North Ottawa.
She was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Water Valley and was the widow of Reginald Glenn Morris. She was the valedictorian of her class at the former Water Valley High School and was a center on the school basketball team. She was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Study.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James P. and Patricia Morris; her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Louis Burdick; six grandchildren, Glenn S. Morris, Shirley J. Bagalay, Linda R. Balewski, Mark E. Burdick, Karen A. Bradley and Jacqueline M. Fobar; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; her niece, Dorothy Owen; and several cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Marvin Keith Morris; her granddaughter, Melanie Reneé Morris; and her sister, Vivian Lowrey.

Richard Booth Sr.
WINGO, Ky.--Services for Richard "Dickie" Booth Sr., 66, of the Pilot Oak community, will be at 2 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Wingo. The Revs. David Hardy and Ed Easley will officiate. Burial will be in Wingo Cemetery.
Mr. Booth died at 6 a.m. Thursday at his home.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Booth was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Stacie Booth of Golconda, Ill., Betty Reed of Portland, Tenn., Sandy Booth and Ranetta Booth, both of Pilot Oak; four sons, Richard "Pete" Booth Jr. of Clinton, Kerry "Poss" Booth of Pilot Oak, Terry Joe Booth of Hickory and Adam Booth of Lafayette, Tenn.; one stepson, Joe Pat Gibson of Mayfield; 17 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

MAYFIELD, Ky. — Services for S.J. Waters, 89, of Sedalia will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Byrn Funeral Home with Jim Canter and Will McSweeney officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Waters died at 1:28 p.m. Wednesday at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired farmer and truck driver, and was a member of Bell City Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Ava Nell Murdock Waters; two sons, Jerry Waters of Mayfield and Danny Waters of Sedalia; one daughter, Barbara Chapman of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one great-great-grandchild. His parents were Jim and Laura Cochrum Waters.

Mr. Hart died at 10:35 a.m. Sunday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.
A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Hart was a cattle farmer and a member of Cuba Baptist Church and Cuba Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Lillian Louise Hart; one daughter, Pam Forrester of Sedalia; two brothers, Darrell Hart of Water Valley and Dwight Hart of Jackson, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and seven great- randchildren.

Suedell Cunningham
UNION CITY, Tenn.--Services for Suedell Cunningham, 90, formerly of Dukedom, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, Ky. The Rev. Oren Stover will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Weakley County.
Mrs. Cunningham died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Dallene Harbour in Union City, where she was residing.
Mrs. Cunningham was a retired cook at the former Fulton Hospital and was a member of the former Dukedom Methodist Church, where she was the pianist for many years.
Surviving are four daughters, Juanita Gatewood of Fulton, Dallene Harbour of Union City, Carolyn Wells of Memphis and Ann Cherry of Dukedom; two sons, Stover Cunningham of Dukedom and John Ray Cunningham of Obion; one sister, Wilma Joyner of Union City; one brother, Curby Stover of Union City; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Completed arrangements are being announced for Virginia (Mills) Latta, 81, of Fulton, who died 2:40 p.m. Oct. 7, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Tri City, Ky.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with burial following in Pinegar Cemetery in Dukedom.

She was born July 27, 1923, in Graves County, Ky., daughter of the late W.D. and Ada (Cruse) Mills. She was the wife of Van Latta and the widow of Doris Lacewell. A member of Parkway Church of Christ in Fulton, she was a retired seamstress for the former Merit Clothing Co. and H.I.S. Clothing Co. She was a member of Fulton Women's Club and had lived in this area all her life.
Survivors also include three daughters, Carol Adkins of Tri City, Martha Simpson of South Fulton and Debbie Sanders of Mayfield, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Nancy Wade and Beverly Miller, both of South Fulton; two stepsons, Tommy Latta of Utah and Kenneth Lacewell of South Fulton; her sister, Estelle Brooks of South Fulton; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her son, two brothers and three sisters.

Willie Gray
MAYFIELD, Ky.--Services for Willie "Bill" Gray, 90, of Mayfield will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield. Mike Tucker and Richard Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery in Henry County, Tenn.
Mr. Gray died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at his home.
He was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways and was of the Church of Christ faith.

Willis Grandy Peace was born on 21 Sep 1875, in Oxford, NC. He graduated with highest honors from the Horner Military School and then worked for two years in a banking house. Following a year at the University of North Carolina, he entered West Point and graduated 24th in his class. He was commissioned in the Artillery Corps, and stationed with the Coast Artillery troops at Tybee Island, GA; then St. Helena Island, SC; and San Francisco, CA. Next, he was assigned to do military map work in Southern California along the Mexican border. In 1905, he was promoted to first lieutenant, assigned to the Field Artillery, and stationed at Camp Stotsenberg, Philippines. Upon returning to the U.S., he served in the Coast Artillery at Ft. Hamilton, Brooklyn, NY. In 1909, he was promoted to captain. Next, he was detailed as a professor of Military Science and Tactics at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts at West Raleigh, NC. For the next three years, he served at Ft. Caswell, NC. He graduated from the Coast Artillery School at Ft. Monroe, VA, in 1916, and then was detailed as an inspector instructor of the National Guard of North Carolina. In 1917, he was promoted to major and assigned to the 319th Field Artillery in training at Camp Gordon, GA. Next, he took a war course at the Field Artillery School at Ft. Sill, OK, then trained American troops in France. In 1918, he was promoted to colonel and transferred to the 11th Field Artillery, training in Valdahon, near the Swiss border. He commanded the 11th Field Artillery in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and is believed to have fired the last American shot of the war. While he waited to return to the U.S., he took an advanced course at the U.S. Field Artillery School at Treves, Germany. In 1919, he was returned to the grade of captain of the Coast Artillery Corps and commanded his regiment as they returned to Camp Grant, IL. At Ft. Leavenworth, KS, he attended the School of the Line in 1920 and achieved distinguished graduate status. Next, he graduated from the General Staff School and became an instructor in both schools in 1922. The next year, he graduated from the Army War College in Washington, DC. He then was detailed to the General Staff in Panama and assisted in drawing up plans for the defense of the Panama Canal. He returned to the U.S. in 1926 and commanded the harbor defenses of Los Angeles, CA, and served with the Organized Reserves in San Francisco and Los Angeles with the 9th Coast Artillery. He was ordered to Hawaii in 1933 and commanded Ft. Shafter and the 64th Coast Artillery. From January 1937 to May 1939, he commanded the 14th Coast Artillery and the Harbor Defenses of Puget Sound at Ft. Worden, WA. He retired on 30 Sep 1939. On 11 Feb 1941, at the age of 65, he died in Laguna Beach, CA and was buried at the National Cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco. | Willis G Peace

WINGO, Ky. — Albert C. “Rastus” Weatherford Jr., 88, of Wingo died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday at Haws Memorial Nursing Home in Fulton.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Bayou de Chien Church and the Water Valley Chapter of F&AM No. 756.
He is survived by two sons, David Weatherford of Buchanan, Tenn., and Terry Weatherford of Wingo; two daughters, Patsy Brann of Huntsville, Ala., and Brenda Ellis of South Fulton, Tenn.; one brother, Jesse B. Weatherford of Almo; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Lintz Weatherford; two sisters; and two brothers. His parents were Albert C. Weatherford Sr. and Eranest Fuqua Weatherford.

Mr. Williams died at 6:20 a.m. Monday at Medco Center of Paducah.
A native of Wyandotte, Mich., he was a member of Pilot Oak Baptist Church and worked for Stanley Jones Mechanical Contracting Company in South Fulton, Tenn. He was a former machinist at the Walcon Corp. in Ecorse, Mich. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in the Air Police. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, June Williams; two daughters, Danielle Francesca Williams of Fulton and Diane Williams of Michigan; three sons, Joseph Allen Williams of Marshville, N.C., and Greg Williams and Steven Williams, both of Michigan; a brother, Royal Williams of Riverview, Mich.; and two sisters, Michelle Sonier of Riverview and Patty Deieshane of Trenton, Mich.

Alton Newman "Pat" Matheny 70, retired from Illinois Central Railroad and resident of 104 Pearl Village died at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Fulton Hospital. He had been a patient in the hospital for the past week.
Born in Weakley Co., TN on 06 March 1900, he was the son of the late James William and Mary Ellen Knighton Matheny. He had a lifetime membership in the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and a member of the Fulton Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, the former Marian Shuck of Fulton, a daughter Mrs Dorothy Rising of Sunnywide, WA. Three sons: James Matheny of South Fulton, Milton Matheny of Old Bridge N.J., and Bobby Matheny of Belford N.J. A stepson, Johnny Sharpe of Matton, IL also survives.
He leaves 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A brother, C. W. Matheny preceded him in death. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with Rev. FULTON, Ky. — Services for Alva Mai Kellams, 96, of Fulton will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel, with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery in South Fulton, Tenn.
Mrs. Kellams died Saturday at Parkway Regional Hospital.
She was a retired bookkeeper for Greyhound Bus Lines in Memphis, Tenn., and the Senior Citizens in Fulton.

PALMERSVILLE, Tenn. — Services for Alvie Mason Harris, 75, of Palmersville, brother of Joanne Schaffer of Paducah, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union Chapel Church of Christ. Burial will be at Morgan Cemetery.
Mr. Harris died Sunday at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
He was a retired maintenance engineer for ANR Pipeline.
Besides his sister, he is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Grubbs Harris, and two sons, Kerry M. Harris of Dresden and Benjie C. Harris of Sharon.

Alvin D. Cruce, 80, of Troy died at his home March 22, 2008.
Services were set for 2 p.m. today at White & Mahon Funeral Home in Troy, with Dr. Vann Kissell officiating. Burial was to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Rives.
Pallbearers were to be James Cruce, Ronnie Owens, Leslie Tidwell, Jason Wherry, Lyn Jones and Bobby Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were to be Charlie Clanton, Bobby Hooper, Henry Green and Dalton Moran.
He was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Obion County, son of the late Comy Leslie Cruce and the late Eva (McDaniel) Cruce Clark. He married the former Helen Jean Turner June 14, 1952. She survives. He had been employed at the former Lear-Siegler in Union City for 23 years and at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 13 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Rives.
He was also an avid fisherman and gardener.
Survivors also include two daughters and his son-in-law, Brenda Jean Cruce of Troy and Glenda Jane and John Meadow of Joppa, Ala.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Alvin and Judy Cruce of Murfreesboro and Steve Ray and Peggy Cruce of Rives; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Earl Hutchison of Clinton, Ky.; and his sister-in-law, Joyce O?Conner of South Fulton.

Alvin Woodrow Freeman, 87, of Martin, died June 8, 2004, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home.

Annie Ruth Cooley, 87, of Spring Hill, died Monday, Oct.10, 2005, at Heartland of Brooksville.
She was born in McConnell, Tenn., and moved to this area 26 years ago from Memphis, Tenn. She was an active member of Spring Hill Church of Christ and worked as a nurse's aide at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. She was a published poet.

Avery grew up in the Guthrie Rd. area of Paris, TN, and attended Robert E. Lee School. Nell’s family lived in the Buchanan area. She attended school there and graduated from Puryear at age 16.
Avery and New met while they were working in the National Youth Administration plan to help build schools. At the time Nell was living in a women-only boardinghouse located at the corner of Blythe and Dunlap in Paris, TN. This same building is now Ridgeway Morticians.
Avery was the second of the brothers to go into service during World War II. He enlisted in the US Army Jan. 13, 1942, was sent to Ft. Sill, OK for training and then to Ft. Barkley, Tn. He was assigned to the 396th Field Arty. Bn. and was sent to France on D-Day. He served his country in the Normandy, Rhineland and Ardennes theaters. Wounded twice in the line of duty, he was awarded the Purple Heart and recovered from his injuries in US Army hospitals in France.
Nell and Avery were married in Abilene, TX before he went overseas. While he was away, Nell worked as a welder in the shipyards at Evansville, IN and on the atomic bomb build at Oak Ridge, TN. The Oak Ridge project was very top secret and nobody in production knew until after the war was over the exact nature of this work.
After the war, they lived in Paris, TN and finally settled in Puryear. All of their children attended school there. Carol attended Vol State at Gallatin, TN. Kenny and Randy graduated from UT Martin and Julian attended Murray State University in Murray, KY. Randy is an ordained Baptist minister and graduated seminary college in Little Rock, AR. Kenneth is a certified public accountant.
Avery worked at Golden Peacock Cosmetics plant in Paris, TN and later at Salant & Salant shirt factory. Both he and Nell were officers of the United Garment Workers and worked hard for the union at the factory. Later he became a rural letter carrier for the Postal Service at Puryear and she worked at Holley Carburetor in Paris, TN. | Avery Jones Crews

Mr. Lowry died at 8:05 p.m. Friday at Green Acres Health Care in Mayfield.
A Graves County native, he was a retired farmer and a past director at Graves County Farm Bureau. He was a member and elder of Pilot Oak Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Allene Yates Lowry; two sisters, Mai Parrish and Mary Nell Gossum, both of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Richard Lowry of Tampa; three grandchildren, Keith Lowry of Pilot Oak, Kris Lowry of Birmingham, Ala., and Carmen “Suzy” Lowry of Darfur, Sudan; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Lowry. His parents were Burnal and Onie Lowry.
